A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COPIAH COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR BEING NAMED AS A MOST IMPROVED SCHOOL DISTRICT BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

     WHEREAS, on February 17, 2012, the Copiah County School District received a great honor after years of hard work and dedication by both students and teachers, in being recognized by the State Department of Education as a "Most Improved School District" by advancing two achievement levels in just two years; and

     WHEREAS, in the 2009-2010 school year, Copiah County School District's Crystal Springs High School was labeled as an "At Risk of Failing" school by the State Department of Education, and this year, the high school's test scores contributed to the school being elevated to a "Successful" school; and

     WHEREAS, the recognition of Crystal Springs High School as a "Successful" school comes after much hard work and relentless dedication by the students and teachers of this school; and

     WHEREAS, the students have raised their test scores over this two-year period, and according to figures from the Department of Education, the student performance at Crystal Springs High School has increased more than any other school in the state; and

     WHEREAS, students of Crystal Springs High School said that the motivation to improve came from their teachers who took the time to show that becoming successful in life is about working hard, studying hard and challenging oneself to become successful in life; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend excellence, shown by the students and teachers of the schools of the Copiah County School District, who dedicate themselves to achieving success in their academics:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Copiah County School District upon being named as a Most Improved School District by the State Department of Education, and extend best wishes for success in all their future academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Copiah County School District and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
