A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RIDGELAND HIGH SCHOOL LADY TITANS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH CRAIG WINSHIP FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR WINNING THEIR EIGHTH CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER TITLE IN TEN YEARS.

WHEREAS, the Ridgeland High School Lady Titans Soccer Team finished the 2011-2012 season by emerging victorious in the 2012 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A Girls Soccer championship title game; and

WHEREAS, being incredibly well-disciplined young ladies, the Lady Titans performed extremely well in the 2011-2012 state playoffs, and on February 4, 2012, the Lady Titans defeated the West Jones High School Lady Mustangs by a score of 2-0 in the MHSAA Class 5A State Championship game; and

WHEREAS, in becoming the 2012 MHSAA Class 5A Girls Soccer State Champions, the Lady Titans invested countless measures of hard work above and beyond the level of other teams, beginning this effort in the late summer months and continuing through early February; and

WHEREAS, on a dreary day, on a rain-drenched field, West Jones was unable to score a single goal during the championship match up, allowing Ridgeland to score two goals and pull out its eighth state championship title in the past 10 years for the Lady Titans; and

WHEREAS, the incredible championship team for Ridgeland was led by Mary Ashton Lembo, who hit two first half free kicks to give the Lady Titans a two goal lead at halftime; Rhae'ven Ellis, who shadowed Lady Mustang striker, Sara Coleman, keeping her from scoring the entire game; and goalie Hailey Hegwood, who finished her career at Ridgeland with a 38-4 record and tied the record for most shutouts in a season with 16; and

WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Titans have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach, bringing honor to Ridgeland High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ridgeland High School Lady Titans Soccer Team and Head Coach Craig Winship for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A Girls Soccer championship title, and for winning their eighth championship soccer title in 10 years.
