House Resolution 59

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BETTYE MAE JACK MIDDLE SCHOOL LADY PANTHERS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011-2012 SEASON.

     WHEREAS, the Bettye Mae Jack Middle School Lady Panthers Basketball Team completed the 2011-2012 basketball season by ending their regular season with an overall 18-0 record; and

     WHEREAS, being incredibly well-disciplined and committed young ladies seeking a repeat of last year's winning season, the Lady Panthers finished with a perfect season for the second year in a row; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Julie Latham managed to fashion a championship basketball team and dedicated herself to coaching the Lady Panthers, who invested countless measures of hard work above and beyond the level of other teams, pushing through to a victory at the tri-county tournament, defeating Lake Middle School and Newton Middle School for the championship title; and

     WHEREAS, the incredible 2011-2012 Lady Panthers Basketball Team was comprised of the following players:  Inikia Bowie, Brandy Watson, Tykila Mapp, Ana Espinoza, Shanek Burkes, Jaterrica Patrick, Roslyn McMiller, Evelyn Hurtado, Vertreuna Harris, Sheyla Cantu and Nakerial Hobbs; and managers, Omia Walton and Selene Nichols; and

     WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Panthers have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coach, bringing honor to Bettye Mae Jack Middle School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, such as the Lady Panthers Basketball Team, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bettye Mae Jack Middle School Lady Panthers Basketball Team and Head Coach Julie Latham on their outstanding 2011-2012 season and extend best wishes to these young ladies in all of their future academic and athletic pursuits.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Latham, Principal Marcia B. Purvis, the Scott County School District and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
