A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF QUINCY CULBERSON, SR., AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Quincy Culberson, Sr., departed this earthly life to enter into eternal rest, causing great sorrow and loss to his family and many friends; and

     WHEREAS, a native of Noxapater, Mississippi, in Winston County, and the eleventh child born to Frank and Jennie Nicholson Culberson, Mr. Culberson devoted his life to Christ at a young age; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Culberson received an education at the Mount Vernon Church School before later graduating from Noxapater High School; and

     WHEREAS, a veteran of World War II, Mr. Culberson went through basic training in Macon, Georgia, prior to serving his country from October 1941 to January 1946; and

     WHEREAS, his tours of duty allowed Mr. Culberson to see many fascinating places, including:  Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Oran, all located along the northern coast of Africa; as well as notable Italian cities such as Rome, Naples, Florence, Pisa and Pompeii; and

     WHEREAS, returning home to Noxapater in January of 1946 after defending the rights and liberties of his countrymen in World War II, Mr. Culberson met the love of his life, Lestine Moore, whom he married in 1947; and

     WHEREAS, to the blessed union of marriage between Mr. and Mrs. Culberson were born five children, three daughters and two sons; and

     WHEREAS, moving his family to Jackson in 1949 to attend Jackson College on the G.I. Bill, Mr. Culberson completed three and a half years of college before moving on to his career, holding down two jobs until all of his children left home; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Culberson knew the value of an education and always strived to teach his children to get a quality education, a good job and to stay in church; and

     WHEREAS, as Mr. Culberson has now traversed the river of life to stand on the golden shores of heaven's landing in a family reunion of the ages with those who preceded him in life's transition, including his parents and all of his siblings, the rich legacy of love and Christian devotion will be forever and indelibly etched into the hearts and memories of his loving survivors, including:  his wonderful and devoted wife of 64 years, Lestine; three daughters, Peggy, Maxine and Carol; two sons, Quincy, Jr., and Von; sons-in-law, Credell Calhoun and Alvester Williams; daughters-in-law, Glenda Culberson and Gwen Culberson; grandchildren, Lisa, Kimberly, Quincy III, Jamilah, Earnest, Felice, Paul, Quincess, Alvester III, Deonica and Quinton; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, J.W. Moore; and a host of nieces and nephews; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life and legacy of remarkable individuals, such as Mr. Culberson, whose exemplary life and devotion to his family made many lives richer and brighter:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Mr. Quincy Culberson, Sr., and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Culberson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
