A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHARLESTON HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TONY VANCE FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2011 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Jackson's Veterans Memorial Stadium, the Charleston High School Tigers Football Team won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A Championship trophy by defeating Hazlehurst in a convincing victory by a score of 34-8 on the strength of an explosive offense and a ferocious defense; and

     WHEREAS, for Charleston, the win marked the Tigers' first state title in two tries, having achieved revenge from Hazlehurst's victory over the Tigers in the 2005 championship game; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers have been difficult to beat over the past three seasons, finishing the 2010 season with a strong 11-2 record and earning an impressive 13-1 record in 2009; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Vance has been ably assisted by the following assistant coaches:  Michael Dogan, Michael Hargett, Scott Martin, Nathan Ross, LaDon Taylor, Rusty Smith and Kevin Farmer; and supported by Athletic Director Fletcher Smith, Principals Marshall Whittemore and Gwen Johnson, and Superintendent William Tribble; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend such a superb group of student athletes and their coaches, all of whom have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Charleston High School Tigers Football Team and Head Coach Tony Vance for their outstanding 2011 season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Charleston High School, Head Coach Tony Vance and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
