A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING LAURA QUARLES HANKINS UPON HER RETIREMENT AFTER 50 YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE.

     WHEREAS, the retirement of Ms. Laura Quarles Hankins, a nurse, was celebrated on December 27, 2011, at the Tallahatchie General Hospital and Extended Care Facility; and

     WHEREAS, in attendance were the fellow employees of Ms. Hankins, her son, Maurice, Mayor Robert Rowe of Charleston and District 2 County Supervisor, Johnny Goodwin; and

     WHEREAS, beginning her career as a nurse in 1961, Ms. Hankins has been a faithful caregiver and friend to her patients, fellow employees and families of patients; and

     WHEREAS, always engaged with the people around her at the hospital, Ms. Hankins made sure that her patients received the best care, that her fellow employees were always fed and that the families of her patients were always content; and

     WHEREAS, a highly qualified nurse, Ms. Hankins taught several Certified Nursing Assistant courses at Amherst Career Center, a program which graduated numerous students; and

     WHEREAS, revered and respected by her colleagues, many fellow nurses and employees of Tallahatchie General Hospital and Extended Care Facility kindly complimented Ms. Hankins upon the occasion of her retirement; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend selflessness, especially when evidenced by 50 years of service by individuals such as Ms. Hankins, whose outstanding dedication brings honor to herself, her family, her profession and her community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Laura Quarles Hankins upon the occasion of her retirement after 50 years of dedicated service to Tallahatchie General Hospital and Extended Care Facility, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Hankins, Tallahatchie General Hospital and Extended Care Facility and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
