A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ITAWAMBA COMMUNITY COLLEGE LADY INDIAN BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE NORTH DIVISION AND STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND JUNIOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Lady Indian Basketball Team of Itawamba Community College has won the North Division Championship title with a perfect 12-0 mark, and a first-time historical feat for the Lady Indians basketball program at Itawamba Community College (ICC), which finished with a perfect regular season record of 19-0 against Mississippi contenders; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Indians added a third state championship title to the school's trophy case under the great leadership of Head Coach Nanci Gray, who was a standout player at ICC herself in 1975; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Gray, after capturing the state championship title this year, was honored as she was presented with the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges "Coach of the Year" award; and

     WHEREAS, during this great season, Coach Gray was ably assisted by a great support staff, including:  Robin Porter, assistant coach; Amanda Aldridge, Katie Duncan and Ashley Gilmore, managers; Jeff Dews, trainer; Alexis Goree, statistician; and Latamara Goree, video; and

     WHEREAS, at the Region 23 Tournament hosted by Mississippi College, ICC finished runner-up to Meridian Community College and this loss broke an impressive 21-game winning streak; and

     WHEREAS, the ladies of ICC finished the year with an incredible overall record of 26-3, and a remarkable National Junior College Athletic Association Division I ranking of 21 of more than 350 womens teams; and

     WHEREAS, the roster for the 2011-2012 Itawamba Community College Lady Indians Basketball Team consists of:  Shay Bonner; Ty-Nita Baker; Ayanna Lynn; Katherine Downing; Alex Thompson; Ashley Wiley; Kelci McCormick; LaPrecious Naylon; Jameika Hoskins; Jemil Jefferson; Vechatita Bonner; Jasmine Hampton; and Santana Lockridge; and

     WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Indians have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches, bringing honor to Itawamba Community College; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians Basketball Team and Head Coach Nanci Gray on their outstanding 2011-2012 season and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future academic and athletic pursuits.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Gray, President Dr. David C. Cole, the Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
