House Concurrent Resolution 92

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING KIMBRELY DANDRIDGE UPON HER HISTORIC ELECTION AS THE FIRST AFRICAN-AMERICAN ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Kimbrely Dandridge of Como, Mississippi, has been elected as the Associated Student Body President of the University of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it was 50 years ago that James Meredith entered the University of Mississippi, under the protection of the National Guard, as the first African-American student to enroll at the university in Oxford, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dandridge is the first African-American female to be elected as Associated Student Body (ASB) President at Ole Miss, and this election is a testament of the substantial progress in racial reconciliation that has been made at Mississippi's premier institution of higher learning; and

     WHEREAS, a junior journalism and sociology dual major, Miss Dandridge managed to find the time in her demanding schedule to campaign for ASB President at Ole Miss, winning the election with 52.7 percent of the vote; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dandridge is an impressive young lady with great aspirations, and she is excited about creating the legacy that she will leave behind at Ole Miss from her tenure as ASB President; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Dandrige is a graduate of Senatobia High School, and she is the daughter of Earnest and Deborah Dandridge, the granddaughter of David and Cloteal Fitzpatrick and she is a sister to her two siblings, Bryan Meeks and Alana Dandridge; and

     WHEREAS, crediting her family, former educators and hometown as being her biggest inspiration, Miss Dandridge displays a motivation and commitment to excellence that can only come from a generous support group, dedicated to the success of a beloved child, sister, student and friend; and

     WHEREAS, it is only fitting that this Legislature acknowledge the contributions of such a commendable individual as Miss Dandridge, whose election as the first African-American ASB President of Ole Miss is a testament of the substantial progress the State of Mississippi has made in race relations and the harmony of the common chord we all share as Mississippians:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the historic election of Kimbrely Dandridge as the first African-American female Associated Student Body President of the University of Mississippi and extend best wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Dandridge, Chancellor Dan Jones, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
