A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING EASTON CURRY UPON BEING SELECTED THE STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI AT&T MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Easton Curry, an exceptional athlete from Grenada, Mississippi, competed in the 2011 State Games of Mississippi martial arts event and was selected as the 2011 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Male Athlete of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the State Games of Mississippi honor athletes from 31 sports, and out of these 31 sports, one male and one female are chosen to receive the honor of Athlete of the Year; at 11 years old, Easton's natural talent makes him a unique, versatile and talented athlete, who "eats, sleeps and breathes martial arts"; and

     WHEREAS, at such a young age, Easton demonstrates the discipline and dedication that it takes for one to excel in the field of martial arts, currently holding 38 first place rankings and 18 second place rankings and with his three third place rankings and four Grand Championships under the Southern Martial Arts Circuit, Easton exemplifies an unparalleled talent and aptitude in his sport, he also competed in his first State Games of Mississippi in June 2011, and stunned the judges with his talent, earning an extraordinary three gold medals in martial arts; and

     WHEREAS, wanting to take his competitiveness to the next level, Easton competed in the National State Games of America in San Diego, California, where he proudly carried the Mississippi banner in the Parade of Athletes, and he was honored as the Spotlighted Athlete in the martial arts program; and

     WHEREAS, Easton showed his magnificent martial arts talents at the National State Games of America, bringing home the gold medal in weapons, the silver medal in Kumate and the bronze medal in Kata; and

     WHEREAS, an outstanding young athlete who has made a major impression upon his sport and his competitors, Easton translates into an effortless ability to stand out as an exceptional talent, his enthusiasm and talent for martial arts reflect great pride upon himself, his family, his teachers and the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, such as Easton Curry, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Easton Curry on being named as the 2011 State Games of Mississippi AT&T Male Athlete of the Year and express best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Easton Curry and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
