AN ACT TO REQUIRED EACH LICENSED HOSPITAL TO PROVIDE TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH EACH MONTH A COMPLETE REPORT ABOUT WHAT THE HOSPITAL DID FOR EACH PATIENT IN THE HOSPITAL WHO WAS DISCHARGED DURING THE PRECEDING MONTH; TO SPECIFY THE MINIMUM INFORMATION ABOUT THE PATIENT THAT MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE REPORT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Each licensed hospital shall provide to the State Department of Health each month a complete report about what the hospital did for each patient in the hospital who was discharged during the preceding month.  The report shall include, at a minimum, the following information about the patient, and any other information required by the department:

          (a)  The patient's diagnosis and the treatment that was provided while the patient was in the hospital;

          (b)  Whether durable medical equipment (DME) was ordered for the patient upon discharge and the specific person or entity from which the DME was ordered;

          (c)  Whether home health care or hospice care was ordered for the patient upon discharge and the specific entity to which the patient was referred to receive the care;

          (d)  Whether the patient was transferred to a swing bed, nursing facility or other type of facility upon discharge and the specific facility to which the patient was transferred;

          (e)  Whether the patient was discharged to his or her own home with a family member or alone with no caregiver; and

          (f)  Whether intravenous or oral medication was ordered for the patient upon discharge and the specific pharmacy to which the order for the medication was placed.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
