House Bill 965

AN ACT TO CREATE NEW SECTION 41-9-39, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE EACH HOSPITAL THAT PROVIDES BIRTHING AND NEWBORN CARE SERVICES TO PERFORM A PULSE OXIMETRY SCREENING ON EVERY NEWBORN IN ITS CARE NOT LESS THAN 24 HOURS AFTER BIRTH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The following shall be codified as Section 41-9-39, Mississippi Code of 1972:

     41-9-39.  Each hospital that provides birthing and newborn care services shall perform a pulse oximetry screening on every newborn in its care not less than twenty-four (24) hours after birth.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
