AN ACT TO CREATE NEW CODE SECTION 47-7-4.1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO AUTHORIZE THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE COMMISSIONER OF CORRECTIONS, TO MAKE END-OF-LIFE DECISIONS FOR CERTAIN STATE INMATES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. The following shall be codified as Section 47-7-4.1, Mississippi Code of 1972:
47-7-4.1. The Mississippi Department of Corrections' Medical Director, in consultation with the commissioner of the department, may make end-of-life decisions involving prisoners who are incarcerated in the state prison system.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2012.
