Senate Resolution 3

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MISSISSIPPI SENATOR SID ALBRITTON FOR THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF HIS CAREER IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE AND FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Senator Sidney (Sid) Albritton from Picayune, Mississippi, has represented the 40th District which consists of Marion, Pearl River and Walthall Counties since 2004; and

     WHEREAS, along with the formation of the Senate Drug Policy Committee in 2009, Lieutenant Governor Bryant appointed Senator Sid Albritton to serve as the first Chairman.  A former narcotics officer and detective, Senator Albritton brought a wealth of knowledge and experience about the many drug problems facing our state.  Focusing on prevention, enforcement and treatment, the Senate Drug Policy Committee developed legislation, policies and programs dealing with the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, as well as the enforcement of laws dealing with controlled substances; and

     WHEREAS, in 2008, Senator Sid Albritton was elected unanimously as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER).  PEER serves as the Legislature's oversight committee and has the authority to evaluate the performance of state and local agencies, review agency records, investigate agencies which are in whole or in part supported by public funds, and review agency compliance with state laws.  Senator Albritton worked diligently to make government more efficient and to eliminate waste where necessary; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Albritton was born September 12, 1971, in Picayune, Mississippi.  He is married to the former Lisa Lee of Poplarville, Mississippi.  They have four children, Sidney, Autumn, Baylee and Lennon.  He is of the Baptist faith.  Sid holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from The University of Southern Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and Golden Key National Honor societies.  He is also a graduate of Pearl River Community College.  He is a business owner, former justice court clerk, and former law enforcement officer; and

     WHEREAS, as Chairman of the Senate Drug Policy Committee and member of the Judiciary Committees, Senator Albritton was unwavering in his commitment to enact laws that protect the safety of our children, elderly and communities.  For these efforts, he was recognized by the Mississippi Chiefs of Police and the Mississippi State Troopers Associations.  During his Senate service, he was a strong advocate of the Second Amendment, and fought to protect the right to bear arms; and

     WHEREAS, in the Senate, Sid Albritton has always remained a loyal friend who maintained strong convictions and dedication to treating people fairly and in a straightforward manner.  With an unflinching duty to public service and a commitment to making this world a better place, Sid Albritton will be missed by a host of friends and associates made during his service to the Senate and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished career of public service of Senator Sidney (Sid) Albritton of Picayune, Mississippi, and extend our best wishes to Sid and his family.

          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Albritton and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
