A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CORINTH HIGH SCHOOL "WARRIORS" BOYS TRACK TEAM FOR WINNING ITS SECOND CONSECUTIVE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Corinth High School "Warriors" Boys Track Team won the 2011 Mississippi High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Class 3A State Championship for the second consecutive year; and

     WHEREAS, "This year we were better," Coach Ryan Summers said.  "We were more solid.  My Assistant Coaches did a good job of getting everybody in the right event, the right spot.  They were responsible for making us successful"; and

     WHEREAS, Biggersville's DeAra Gardner turned in the best individual performance among the local athletes in the Class 1A meet.  The senior claimed three Gold Medals — 100 meter dash, 100 meter hurdle, and the long jump — and finished second in the high jump; and

     WHEREAS, in 2010, Corinth carried six competitors to the event; this year, they carried nine.  Senior Taylor Smith brought home two Gold Medals, one in the 110 high hurdles, and one in the 300 intermediate hurdles — breaking his own school record in the process.  He also won a Bronze in the pole vault.  Alcorn County owned the 3A two mile, with Kossuth's Connor Martin taking the Gold and Corinth teammates Clayton Alred winning the Silver and Brian McDonnieal taking the Bronze.  Kyle Suitor of Kossuth won the Gold in both the 1600 and 800 meter run, while Corinth's Nick Thompson won the Silver in both events.  Frank Rivers won the Bronze in the 800 meter; and

     WHEREAS, the 2011 "Warriors" Boys Track Team roster is as follows:  Nick Thompson, Taylor Smith, Briceson Ross, Frank Rivers, Eric Richardson, Brian McDonnieal, José Contreras and Clayton Alred; Manager James Jordan; Coaches:  Ryan Summers - Head Coach, Fred Stafford - Sprints/Relays, Patricia Barr - Jumps/Hurdles, and Larry Mangus - Distance; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this special achievement by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Corinth High School "Warriors" Boys Track Team for winning the 2011 Mississippi High School Athletic Association Class 3A State Championship, their second consecutive State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors on this occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Summers for the team, forwarded to Corinth High School Principal Russ Elam and to the members of the Corinth School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
