House Resolution 8

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE HARVEY FILLINGANE FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

WHEREAS, after four years of dedicated service to the citizens of House District 101, which includes parts of Forrest and Lamar Counties, the Honorable Harvey Fillingane, a distinguished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make the 2011 legislative year his last; and

WHEREAS, born December 11, 1938, in Lamar County, Mississippi, Representative Fillingane attended Sumrall High School and Hattiesburg High School and received his advanced education at the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Representative Fillingane, a retired carpenter, currently serves the House of Representatives as a member of the following House committees: Agriculture, Judiciary B, Judiciary En Banc, Juvenile Justice and Labor; and

WHEREAS, Representative Fillingane, a member of the Baptist faith and Oral Baptist Church, has been supported by his loving family, including his supportive wife, the former Linnie Marilyn Rayborn; children, Adrianna, Tasha, Marlissa, Jonathan and the Honorable State Senator Joey Fillingane; and several adoring grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Representative Fillingane's humble, easygoing and trustworthy personality has complemented his understanding of the issues he has addressed over the course of his tenure in the Legislature, and his positive influence on all those who have had the pleasure of working with him will surely be missed in the coming years; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the legacy of one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Harvey Fillingane for his years of dedicated and distinguished service to the citizens of House District 101 and the State of Mississippi and extend heartiest wishes from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Harvey Fillingane and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
