House Resolution 3

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE HARVEY MOSS FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Harvey Moss, an honored and cherished member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make 2011 his last legislative year when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Harvey Moss began his legislative service in 1984 after being elected by the citizens of District 2, which is composed of parts of Alcorn County, and was sworn into office on January 3, 1984, at the commencement of the 1984 Regular Session of the Mississippi Legislature; and

     WHEREAS, he has utilized the wisdom and experience he has accrued over the years to guide him in his duties as Chairman of  the House Oil, Gas and Other Minerals and PEER Committees and as a member of the Ways and Means, Tourism, Labor, Judiciary A, Judiciary En Banc, Investigate State Offices, Banking and Financial Services and Transportation Committees; and

     WHEREAS, born July 17, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi, Representative Harvey Moss, driven by the values instilled in him by his parents, attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor of arts degree in 1972 and a juris doctorate in 1974 before beginning a successful career as an attorney; and

     WHEREAS, during his tenure as Chairman of Oil, Gas and Other Minerals, he has developed a reputation of being one of the more respected and knowledgeable persons in our state regarding the matters that fall within the realm of that committee; and

     WHEREAS, throughout the years, Representative Moss has utilized his leadership skills in the community as a Mason and Shriner, in addition to his legal practice and involvement with the Alcorn County and The Mississippi Bar Associations; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Moss is a strong man of Baptist faith, who has been supported in every endeavor embarked upon by his family:  wife, Lana Hopkins Moss; son, Tyler; and grandchildren, Greer, Greeneley and Lidde Hopkins; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor one of our own, who has represented his district, as well as this legislative body, with honor and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Harvey Moss for his legislative legacy and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement from the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Harvey Moss and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
