A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CAREER AND PUBLIC SERVICE OF MOYLE H. "BUTCH" SURRETTE, YALOBUSHA COUNTY DISTRICT 3 SUPERVISOR.
WHEREAS, after more than 24 years of dedicated service as a public servant, Mr. Moyle H. "Butch" Surrette has announced his retirement. He began his prestigious career as an employee with the Mississippi Department of Transportation Water Valley Project Office, before being elected in 1988 as District 3 Supervisor for Yalobusha County; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Surrette gained the respect of his constituents, peers and colleagues, as evidenced by his lengthy tenure as county supervisor, which spanned a total of 20 years from 1988 to 1999, and again from 2004 to 2011; and
WHEREAS, respected for his knowledge and business ingenuity, Mr. Surrette served 8 years as Board of Supervisors President, which positioned him for selection, appointment and membership on numerous boards and committees, including: the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Finance Committee; the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Executive Committee, where he served as Chairman from 1998 to 1999; the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Legislative Committee; the North Central Planning and Development Board; the Water Valley Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President from 2001 to 2002; and the Yalobusha County Economic Development Board; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Surrette gave back to the community through social, civic and religious organizations. He is a member of the Water Valley Ambassadors and a faithfully devoted member and Deacon of Water Valley First Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong cattleman and vegetable farmer, Mr. Surrette is an avid fox hunter and advocates the interests of like-minded enthusiasts through his service as Director of the Mississippi State Fox Hunter's Association and the United States Open Fox Hunter's Association, along with being a director for numerous other fox hunter's associations; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend the career of this individual, who has dedicated more than two decades of his life to public service:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the career and public service of Moyle H. "Butch" Surrette, Yalobusha County District 3 Supervisor, upon the occasion of his retirement and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors and for good health and happiness.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Mr. Surrette and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
