Senate Resolution 20

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR CINDY HYDE-SMITH FOR HER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith is retiring from the Mississippi Senate to run for election to the office of Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce; and

     WHEREAS, Cindy Hyde-Smith is a Republican member of the Mississippi Senate, representing the 39th District since 2000.  District 39 includes Lincoln, Lawrence and Simpson Counties; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Hyde-Smith currently serves as Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, as well as a member of Appropriations, Constitution, Corrections, Elections, Forestry, Public Health and Welfare, Veterans and Military Affairs, and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committees; and

     WHEREAS, Cindy is one of five women in the State Senate.  She is a woman of integrity and hard work with a working knowledge of Mississippi's agriculture and cattle farming system, and there is an acknowledged respect of our esteemed colleague and enlightened lawmaker; and

     WHEREAS, Cindy is a Brookhaven, Mississippi, cattle farmer with her husband, Michael L. Smith.  She has been particularly involved in agri-business and agri-tourism proposals before the Legislature.  Cindy has one child, Anna-Michael, and the family are active members of First Baptist Church.  She attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, she is a member of the American Cancer Society, the Junior Auxiliary of Brookhaven, Hospice, the Mississippi Cattleman's Association, and the Mississippi Wildlife Federation; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Hyde-Smith's service has been marked by her commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment and fairness.  She has set the highest standard in all of her many roles, as a mother, wife, cattle businesswoman, citizen, stateswoman and leader in the Mississippi Senate and as a true friend:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom she was associated, and we wish Cindy and her family much success in their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
