Senate Concurrent Resolution 616

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SUZANA BROWN FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown, a resident of Gautier, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown, a Language Arts Instructor and Chairperson, Learning Lab Chairperson, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 8 years and has taught for the past 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English from the University of Southern Mississippi, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown served as the Written Communication Leader of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College SACS Assessment Team; SACS Quality Action Committee and Implementation Committee; former Phi Theta Kappa Advisor; Emergency Action Committee; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown is a member of the English Association of Mississippi; English Association for Southeast; Association for the Tutoring Profession Modern Language Association; and Sylvan Learning Center Franchise Owner; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown is a member of the First Baptist Church of Vancleave, Mississippi; the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce; Jackson County School District PTO; Director of Education for America’s Promise; member of Mission Mississippi; volunteer for the SOAR rally for Pascagoula School District; charter member of Gautier High School football team; sponsor of Gautier Rotary Golf Tournament; and supporter of Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County; participant in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Biloxi; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Suzana Brown, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Suzana Brown for being selected as the Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes of success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Suzana Brown, forwarded to the President of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
