Senate Concurrent Resolution 608

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING "MISS MISSISSIPPI 2010" SARAH BETH JAMES OF MADISON, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, the 2010 leading lady of pageant competition in Mississippi is Sarah Beth James, "Miss Mississippi 2010"; and

     WHEREAS, Sarah Beth James is a 20-year-old junior in the Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University, majoring in communications/public relations.  After graduation, she hopes to obtain a graduate degree from Belmont University and work in the music industry; and

     WHEREAS, Sarah Beth is a member of Chi Omega Sorority and is a volunteer and fundraiser for a variety of organizations, especially MORA, the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency; and

     WHEREAS, Sarah Beth was crowned "Miss Mississippi" at the Vicksburg Convention Center in June 2010 and is campaigning for the importance of organ and tissue donation.  She will suspend her college career while she serves as Miss Mississippi and advances this important issue; and

     WHEREAS, Sarah Beth is a member of Madison United Methodist Church and resides with her family in Madison, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, by winning the title of Miss Mississippi, Sarah Beth will receive more than $10,000.00 in scholarship funds upon completion of her reign to achieve her educational goals.  Sarah Beth is most qualified to serve as a Goodwill Ambassador promoting our state at civic and charitable functions across the area; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend this talented young Mississippian who will represent and bring honor to her hometown and to her home state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute "Miss Mississippi 2010" Sarah Beth James of Madison, Mississippi, and extend our best wishes to Sarah Beth and her family during the upcoming year of her reign.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Miss Mississippi Sarah Beth James and her family, forwarded to the Miss Mississippi Corporation and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
