A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF PUBLIC SERVICE OF WORLD WAR II VETERAN KEITH D. DAVIS, SR., FORMER MAYOR AND POSTMASTER OF TERRY, MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, Mr. Keith D. Davis, Sr., respected World War II Veteran and former Mayor and Postmaster of Terry, Mississippi, passed away on February 7, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Keith came to live in Terry in 1939. Later, after serving in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, he returned to Terry. Keith was an active member and Deacon of First Baptist Church of Terry; and
WHEREAS, he was Postmaster of Terry for 30 years. Keith gave generously of his time to serve as Mayor of the Town of Terry for the betterment of the community; and
WHEREAS, many times Keith Davis was called "the Father of our Town." He served on the Terry High School Board during the 1960s. Keith was an active member of the Terry Lions Club since the 1950s. In 2007, at a town celebration, Keith was awarded the Outstanding Service Award; and
WHEREAS, Keith displayed unwavering love for his wife and children. He gave strength to face life's battles and taught us to celebrate the good times of life with his unforgettable smile and laughter; and
WHEREAS, Keith is survived by his wife, Betty Cessner Davis; son, Keith Davis, Jr., (Kathryn); daughter, Jan Davis Salvo; grandchildren: Jeffrey Salvo (Cassie), David Salvo, Kathleen Davis and Lucy Davis; great-grandchildren: Bailey Salvo, Abbey Salvo, Tessa Shelton and Logan Salvo; and numerous nieces and nephews. Keith was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Davis, Sr.; brothers, Ensley Davis and Bert Davis; sister, Mathilde Morgan; and son-in-law, Nate A. Salvo III; and
WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of this respected community leader and Veteran:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life of public service of World War II Veteran Keith D. Davis, Sr., former Mayor, Postmaster, School Board Member and community leader of Terry, Mississippi, and extend the sympathy of the Legislature on his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Keith Davis, forwarded to the Terry Board of Aldermen and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
