Senate Concurrent Resolution 578

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI REPRESENTATIVE KELVIN O. BUCK AS THE 41ST RECIPIENT OF THE "RUST COLLEGE TOWER OF LEADERSHIP AWARD."

     WHEREAS, on November 13, 2010, Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, held its 144th Anniversary Founders Weekend which included diplomas commemorating alumni class anniversaries and special awards at the convocation held at the Doxey Alumni Fine Arts Communication Center; and

     WHEREAS, the high watermark of the convocation was the presentation of the 41st Annual Rust College "Tower of Leadership Award" which was presented to Mississippi Representative Kelvin O. Buck who is a Rust College graduate of the Class of 1997; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Buck was honored by his alma mater for his outstanding and effective work in the Mississippi Legislature representing Marshall and Benton Counties; and

     WHEREAS, Kelvin was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2003 and has served District 5 for 8 years.  He has served on the Universities and Colleges Committee for this entire time and was named Chairman after the loss of veteran Representative Charles Young.  He serves on the Ways and Means Committee and several influential committees in the Legislature; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Buck currently volunteers much of his time in his local community as a member of 100 Black Men and is active in the Boy Scouts; and

     WHEREAS, he is married to Representative Kimberly Campbell Buck (District 72), and the couple's children are Sage, Brelan, Forrest, Channing and Kerrigan; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the Rust College administration, faculty and alumni in recognizing the contributions of this respected Mississippi legislator who has brought honor to his college, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do recognize and congratulate District 5 Mississippi Representative Kelvin O. Buck as the recipient of the 41st Rust College "Tower of Leadership Award" and extend our best wishes to Kelvin and his family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Representative Buck and his family, forwarded to the President of Rust College Dr. David Beckley and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
