Senate Concurrent Resolution 551

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CLARKDALE HIGH SCHOOL "LADY BULLDOGS" SOFTBALL TEAM AND COACH RICK ROBERSON FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE SLOW-PITCH SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2010 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Clarkdale High School "Lady Bulldogs" Softball Team of Meridian, Mississippi, defeated Nettleton 13-0 in the first game and 7-6 in the finale on October 16, 2010, to win the Class 3A State Slow-Pitch Softball Championship Tournament at Veterans Field in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Bulldogs had an outstanding 2010 season; and

WHEREAS, the team performed very well in tournament play, winning the South-Half Championship and the State Championship, bringing their total number of Championships to 10; and

WHEREAS, the following team members earned individual honors for excellence in season and tournament play: Sarah Harris, All-State; Amber Spann, All-State; Lauren Thrash, All-State; Abby Roberts, All-State; and Lindsey Beard, All-State; and

WHEREAS, the team was ably coached by Head Coach Rick Roberson and Assistant Coaches Robbi Cooper, Britt Bennett and Renee McLeod; and

WHEREAS, the roster of the 2010 edition of the Lady Bulldogs is as follows: Seniors - Alex Smith, Amber Spann, Kristen Shelby, Logan Bozeman; Juniors - Lindsey Beard, Tiffinie Carney, Melissa Carruth, Kennedy Castleberry, Sarah Harris, Abby Roberts, Leyanne Bozeman; Sophomores - Kandi Collins, Shana Elmore, Kayla Phillips, Lauren Thrash, Sarah Wright; Freshmen - Reagan Dupré, Heather Harwell, Breanna Ivey, Molly McLeod; Eighth Grade - Kayla Clark, Alex Riser, Ashlynn Shirley; Seventh Grade - Haley Dupré, Haley Hutcherson ; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this accomplishment by these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Clarkdale High School "Lady Bulldogs" Girls Softball Team and Coach Rick Roberson for winning the Class 3A State Slow-Pitch Softball Championship Tournament and extend to them the best wishes of the Legislature for their future athletic and academic successes.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Rick Roberson and the Principal Cheryl Thomas of Clarkdale High School for the team, forwarded to the Lauderdale County Board of Education, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
