Senate Concurrent Resolution 545

(As Adopted by Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING GARY ANGLIN OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HIS INSPIRING AND PATRIOTIC COMPOSITION "MY HOME, MISSISSIPPI."

WHEREAS, Gary Anglin of Montgomery County, Mississippi, has written the words and music to an inspirational and patriotic composition entitled "My Home, Mississippi."  This song is based on a poem entitled "The Best is Yet to Be" written by his grandfather, C.F. Anglin; and

WHEREAS, the lyrics to the song is as follows:

"My Home, Mississippi

     When I think of Mississippi, these things come to mind;

Courthouse squares and county fairs and tall loblolly pines.

Azalea Trails and Delta Belles and cotton rows for miles,

Catfish farms and open arms and lots of friendly smiles.

Chorus:

Oh, it's my home, Mississippi.  It's the place where my heart longs to be.

Oh, it's well known that Mississippi is the State of Hospitality.

Soft summer nights and evening lights when crickets sing in tune.

Fishing poles and swimming holes for barefoot boys in June,

The Natchez Trace, a slower pace of life in hurried times,

Red-clay hills, Spring daffodils and honeysuckle vines.

Chorus:

Oh, it's my home, Mississippi.  It's the place where my heart longs to be.

I'm coming home to Mississippi, Magnolia scented breezes call to me.

Tallahatchie, Yalobusha, Pearl, Big Black, Yazoo,

Bogue Chitto, Pascagoula, just to name a few

Rivers winding through the woods, headed to the coast

Sunsets on the gulf so bright, how can I help but boast?

Catching fireflies in fruit jars, making clover chains

Summer concerts on the beach, Friday Football games.

All these thoughts of days gone by, flood my memory

But I'll just pass along this one, "The Best is Yet to Be"

Chorus:

It's my home, Mississippi.  It's the place where my heart longs to be.

I'm coming home to Mississippi, the greatest place in all the world to me.

     Oh, it's my home, Mississippi.

It's the place where my heart longs to be.

I'm coming home to Mississippi, Magnolia-scented breezes call to me"; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize and congratulate Gary for his talent and for his love of the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Gary Anglin of Montgomery County, Mississippi, for his inspiring and patriotic composition "My Home, Mississippi," and extend to him and his family our best wishes and thanks for sharing his talent with the citizens of our state.
