A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING DISTRICT 13 REPRESENTATIVE JACK GADD AS NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE "2010 ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR."

     WHEREAS, Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWMCC) has announced that District 13 Mississippi Representative Jack Gadd is the "2010 Alumnus of the Year."  Representative Gadd was honored at the Homecoming Alumni and Friends Celebration luncheon on the Northwest Campus in Senatobia in the Haraway Conference Room on October 16, 2010.  The class of 1960 and other 50-year alumni were recognized at this time; and

     WHEREAS, following Representative Gadd's course work at Northwest from 1973 to 1975 on a basketball scholarship, he attended the University of Mississippi.  After graduating from Ole Miss in 1978, he was hired by his high school basketball coach, Milton Kuykendall, who now serves as Superintendent of DeSoto County Schools and on the  Northwest Mississippi Community College Board of Trustees, to be the girls' basketball coach and assistant boys' basketball coach at Hickory Flat School; and

     WHEREAS, after working for seven years at Hickory Flat, former Ole Miss Women's Basketball Coach Van Chancellor hired him to be the assistant coach for his team at Ole Miss.  After coaching there for two years, he invested in WQLJ radio, the station carrying both Northwest and Ole Miss athletic events, with David Kellum; and

     WHEREAS, Jack was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 1991 and has served District 13 for 19 years.  He has served on the Universities and Colleges Committee for this entire time and was the Vice Chairman for eight years.  He was the Chair of the Universities and Colleges Budget Committee for four years, along with the Department of Public Safety.  He is currently Vice Chair of the Tourism Committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Gadd currently volunteers much of his time in his local community as a fireman with the Hickory Flat Fire Department; a member of the Lions Club, Mississippi Association of Broadcasters, McLean Institute and the Ole Miss Alumni Association; and coach in the Saturday Morning Basketball program for elementary and middle school students for the past six years; and

     WHEREAS, he is married to the former Merri "Pebble" Stone of Potts Camps and has three children:  Cody, age 15; Jeanie Anne, age 13; and Jacob, age 12; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the Northwest Mississippi Community College administration and faculty in recognizing the contributions of this respected Mississippi legislator who has brought honor to his college, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do recognize and congratulate District 13 Mississippi Representative Jack Gadd as Northwest Mississippi Community College (NWMCC) "2010 Alumnus of the Year" and extend our best wishes to Jack and his family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be presented to Representative Gadd and his family, forwarded to the President of Northwest Mississippi Community College and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
