A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. FRANKLIN OAKLEY MENZIES UPON RECEIVING HIS UNTIED STATES CITIZENSHIP.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Franklin Oakley Menzies, after being in the United States for many years, received his United States citizenship in October 2010; and

     WHEREAS, as a native of Kingston, Jamaica, Mr. Menzies was reared and received his early education in Belize, formerly known as British Honduras; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Menzies, in 1962, moved to the United States and lived in the State of Illinois, and knowing that he wanted to become a resident of this country, he soon obtained permanent resident status; and

     WHEREAS, although Mr. Menzies obtained his permanent resident status, he soon embarked on his dream to become a United States citizen so that he could have the full rights and protections of the United States Constitution; and

     WHEREAS, this dream of Mr. Menzies became a reality in October 2010 when he successfully completed the following requirements to become a United States citizen:  an interview process, background checks, an English exam and the United States civic exam; and

     WHEREAS, once Mr. Menzies completed the required exams, interviews and background checks, he took the United States Oath of Allegiance, which was a true climax in the citizenship process; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Menzies, as a citizen of this country, has had extreme success in his professional and career endeavors, having worked for U.S. Steel, Inc., for several years and as an independent truck driver, and after making vast contributions as a dedicated employee, he was employed for many years by Hostess Brands, Inc., until his retirement; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to having success in his professional life, Mr. Menzies has had success in his personal life, when in 2004, Mr. Menzies married the love of his life, the former Shirley Smart, a native of Goodman, Mississippi, and soon after joining together in holy matrimony with his lovely bride, Mr. Menzies moved to Goodman; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to being a dedicated family man and being involved in several organizations within his community, Mr. Menzies is an active member of St. Maryland Church of God In Christ, in Goodman, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend great citizens such as Mr. Menzies who by obtaining his  United States citizenship has demonstrated his love and loyalty to not only this great State of Mississippi but to this great country as a whole:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate Mr. Franklin Oakley Menzies upon receiving his United States citizenship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Menzies and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
