House Resolution 129

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MARK M. ORMON FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AS THE CHANCERY CLERK OF BENTON COUNTY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, after 24 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Benton County, Mississippi, Chancery Clerk Mark M. Ormon will make 2011 his last year of service when he retires from public office at the end of the current term; and

     WHEREAS, Mark Ormon, the elder brother of unexpected twins,  was born unto Mr. Shirley and Margie Ormon in the Pine Grove community of Benton County where he grew up as a country boy playing and working hard on the family farm with his seven siblings; and

     WHEREAS, a 1966 graduate of Hickory Flat Attendance Center, Mark Ormon graduated from Northwest Community College in 1968 before earning a bachelor of science degree in animal science from Mississippi State University in 1970; and

     WHEREAS, upon completion of his postsecondary education, Mark Ormon served a tour of duty in Vietnam with the United States Army, where his animal science degree from Mississippi State was put to good use through his work in the military as a dog trainer; and

     WHEREAS, after returning home, Mark Ormon farmed with his father and worked for the Kellogg Company until 1973, at which time he resigned from Kellogg to become a full-time Benton County farmer working alongside his dad and twin brother; and

     WHEREAS, Mark Ormon, a hard worker whose experience gave him firsthand knowledge of the struggles of farmers, learned valuable standards of service and gained a complete understanding of the needs of people and stresses of living in a small county through his years of farming; and

     WHEREAS, active in local organizations and always seeking better opportunities and services for his fellow Benton Countians, Mark Ormon entered local politics and was first elected to the office of chancery clerk in 1987; and

     WHEREAS, during Mark Ormon's exemplary six terms of office, the Benton County Chancery Clerk's Office has gained a reputation of being one of the most outstanding and efficiently operated chancery clerk's offices in the state; and

     WHEREAS, always ready to help through both his professional work and personal life, Mark Ormon has represented Benton County on the Northeast Mississippi Planning and Development Board and currently serves as Chairman of the Northeast Regional Mental Health Board; and

     WHEREAS, Mark Ormon is looking forward to spending more time at home upon his retirement as Benton County Chancery Clerk with his loving and supportive wife whom he married in 1974, the former Teena Ward, their three wonderful sons, and three adoring grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend Mississippians such as Mark Ormon, a public servant who has tirelessly dedicated his life to the betterment of his community, county and his state and whose mild manner and willing demeanor will be greatly missed by the people of Benton County in the coming years:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Benton County Chancery Clerk Mark M. Ormon for his many years of dedicated and distinguished service to the citizens of Benton County and extend to him congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of his retirement.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mark Ormon and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
