House Resolution 119

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING REPRESENTATIVE BILLY NICHOLSON FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE LEGACY AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE SPECIAL OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, Representative Billy Nicholson, an honored, esteemed and respected member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, will make the 2011 legislative session his last when he retires; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Nicholson was born in Union, Mississippi, on February 5, 1948, to his loving parents and currently resides in Little Rock, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, as a staunch believer in education, Representative Nicholson earned an associate of arts degree from East Central Community College, and a bachelor of science degree from Mississippi State University; and

     WHEREAS, wanting to give back to his community by making this great State of Mississippi a better place, Representative Nicholson ran for legislative office and was initially elected in 2000 by the citizens of District 78, which consists of portions of Neshoba, Newton and Scott Counties; and

     WHEREAS, due to the exceptional representation by Representative Nicholson of this proud and dynamic district, he has served his constituents for 12 outstanding years by making vast improvements within the district; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Nicholson, a trusted leader, currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Ethics Committee of the House and is a contributing member of the following committees:  Agriculture, Public Health and Human Services, Transportation and Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to being a legislator who is a strong conservative, Representative Nicholson is an active member of the Southern Baptist church where he serves as a deacon; and

     WHEREAS, throughout all of his endeavors Representative Nicholson has been lovingly supported by his beautiful wife, the former Betty Gail Williams, and their two successful daughters, Angela and Jennifer; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and recognize one of our own, Representative Nicholson, who has represented District 78 as well as this legislative body with honor, respect and dignity:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Representative Billy Nicholson for his legislative legacy and congratulate this distinctive member upon the special occasion of his retirement from the prestigious legislative branch of government, the Mississippi House of Representatives.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Billy Nicholson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
