A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER OF MR. JON MARK WEATHERS AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MANY YEARS OF MERITORIOUS SERVICE AND COMMITMENT TO FORREST AND PERRY COUNTIES AND THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, Jon Mark Weathers celebrated his retirement as the District Attorney of the 12th Judicial District on October 1, 2010, after many years of meritorious service to the citizens of Forrest and Perry Counties and the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Weathers first served as District Attorney for the 12th Judicial District from 1976-1980, then practiced civil law for 23 years before successfully seeking to return to public service and the position of district attorney, taking office in July 2003; and

WHEREAS, Patricia Burchell, who succeeded Mr. Weathers as District Attorney, 12th Judicial District, proclaimed, "Jon Mark Weathers has been a mentor to me for the past seven years that I have worked as one of his Assistant District Attorneys.  When I think of Jon Mark, three words come to mind:  passion, integrity and diligence.  I have seen his passion for justice sustain him during periods of discouragement, fatigue and grief.  He has conducted every affair with utmost integrity.  He worked diligently and tirelessly every day of his administration.  I consider myself truly blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from and work with Jon Mark during his tenure as our District Attorney."; and

WHEREAS, his son, Brad Weathers, praised his father, stating, "My father is the most unselfish person I have ever known, more focused on helping others than on his own well-being.  I am proud of the hard work and dedication that he has displayed during his tenure as District Attorney for the 12th Judicial District.  It is even more gratifying to see his efforts as a husband, father and grandfather.  I know that he has put everything he had into the job and glad that he has finally decided to work less and enjoy life more."; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, he has been supported by his family:  wife, Peggy; two sons, Brad and the late Jason Weathers, who tragically lost his battle with cancer during Mr. Weathers' latest term in office, leaving behind his wife, Stephanie; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends; and
