A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MONROE COUNTY VOCATIONAL CENTER ROBOTICS TEAM ON BEING THE FIRST STUDENTS TO REPRESENT MISSISSIPPI IN THE WORLD ROBOTICS COMPETITION.
WHEREAS, the Monroe County Vocational Center Robotics Team had one team to qualify for the 2011 VEX Robotics World Competition to be held April 14-16, 2011, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World; and
WHEREAS, the team is comprised of Steven Carter from Hatley High School, Nykia Burdine from Smithville High School, Linda Harkness from Nettleton High School and Olivia Butler from Hamilton High School and their instructor is Mechelle Welch; and
WHEREAS, Billy Loague is Director of Monroe County Vo-Tech which serves five high schools and three school districts and Scott Cantrell is the Monroe County Superintendent of Education; and
WHEREAS, approximately 600 teams are expected to compete this year in the competition of robotic engineering and Monroe County Vo-Tech is honored to represent the State of Mississippi and Monroe County schools; and
WHEREAS, the team has been superbly taught by Mechelle Welch in robotic engineering enhancing their knowledge and skills in the field of robotics; and
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi will be represented by this very capable group of young people in this prestigious competition; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Monroe County Vocational Center Robotics Team on being the first students in Mississippi to represent the state in the VEX Robotics World Competition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Monroe County Vocational Center, Instructor Mechelle Welch, Director Billy Loague, Superintendent Scott Cantrell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
