A RESOLUTION COMMENDING SUTTER SMITH FOR HIS SERVICE IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY DURING WORLD WAR II.
WHEREAS, Sutter Smith, the twin brother of Samuel Smith, was born on August 24, 1924, in Terry, Mississippi, to the late Joe and Matilda Owen Smith; and
WHEREAS, Sutter was drafted into the Army in 1942 and was stationed in Hawaii and Japan; and
WHEREAS, Sutter served his country honorably as a quartermaster during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946; and
WHEREAS, upon returning to the United States, Sutter had a hard time finding rewarding work and after working different jobs he began farming with his father; and
WHEREAS, Sutter married Margie Ree Terry Smith and they are the proud parents of eight children and have been blessed with 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, all of his children attended college and are now hardworking tax-paying citizens; and
WHEREAS, Sutter has served as a Deacon in the Terry Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years and is a member of the Mississippi Livestock Association; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend exemplary service to our state and country such as the service of Sutter Smith:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the honorable service of World War II veteran Sutter Smith and express sincere best wishes for the days ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Sutter Smith and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
