A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI ARMY NATIONAL GUARD 287TH EN (MAC) OF LUCEDALE, MISSISSIPPI, UPON ITS RETURN HOME FROM TOUR IN AFGHANISTAN.

WHEREAS, the Mississippi Army National Guard 287th EN (MAC) of Lucedale, Mississippi, was called for active service to our country in Afghanistan; and

WHEREAS, we thank God for their safe return home to their families; and

WHEREAS, we owe each day of security and freedom that we enjoy to the brave servicemen and women and their families; and

WHEREAS, we hold a sacred trust to the extraordinary Americans willing to lay down their lives to protect us all and this great United States of America; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Mississippi Army National Guard 287th left us one year ago, proud to serve our country despite the unique challenges they knew they would face; and

WHEREAS, their willingness to give freely and unselfishly of themselves, even their lives, in defense of our democratic principles has given our country the security we enjoy today, and from Valley Forge to Iraq and Afghanistan, through war and peace, valiant, these patriotic Americans have answered the call, serving with honor and fidelity; and

WHEREAS, we reflect today on the great achievements of the 287th and those whose sacrifices have preserved our freedom and our way of life and with a spirit of pride and gratitude, let us recall their heroic accomplishments and thank them for their unselfish devotion to duty because they are indeed worthy of this solemn tribute; and

WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi, the City of Lucedale, Mississippi, and the residents of George and Greene Counties are justifiably proud of these men and women who serve and who have brought and will continue to bring pride and honor to the people of this state and their community; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to express gratitude and to commend the 287th EN (MAC) of Lucedale, Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Mississippi Army National Guard 287th EN (MAC) of Lucedale, Mississippi, upon its return home from a tour in Afghanistan and extend sincerest wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the 287th EN (MAC) of Lucedale, Mississippi, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
