A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BLUE DEVILS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2010-2011 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Booneville High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team finished the 2010-2011 season with an outstanding record of 28-7 and demonstrated athletic fortitude and prowess to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Blue Devils' 60-55 victory over longtime rival Corinth placed the team back into records for history and present stardom as the victors of the school's first state title 48 years in the making since its last championship in 1963, rising triumphantly as the 2010-2011 Class 3A State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, throughout their season of play, the Blue Devils have faced off with some of the state's best contenders on the hard court, but persevered to make their presence and talent known by capturing the New Site Tournament Championship, Division 1-3A Regular Season Runner-up status, Division 1-3A Tournament Runner-up status and the 3A North Half Championship on their redemptive road to basketball glory; and

     WHEREAS, the Blue Devils, who outscored their opponents 2,409 to 1,889 and outrebounded them 1,167 to 806, with a 52% field goal success rate to reach the big dance of the prep-style culmination of March Madness, have received several individual honors, which are a testament of the team's athletic super-status, including:  the selection of Tre Welch, Kenny Paul Geno, Darius Leach and Keldrick Lesley to the All-Division Team; and the naming of Kenny Paul Geno and Keldrick Lesley to the All-State Team; and

     WHEREAS, the Blue Devils have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Michael Smith and Assistant Coaches Brian Windham and Micah Moment, along with the athletic conditioning and training of Jock Calamese, who have broadened the Blue Devils' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Smith continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and plays, by the team's successful season and for winning its first state championship title after a much extended hiatus; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville High School Blue Devils Boys Basketball Team and their coaches, Michael Smith, Brian Windham and Micah Moment, for their outstanding 2010-2011 season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Booneville High School, Head Coach Michael Smith, Assistant Coaches Brian Windham and Micah Moment, Athletic Trainer Jock Calamese and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
