A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST RANKIN HIGH SCHOOL LADY COUGARS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2010-2011 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Northwest Rankin High School Lady Cougars Basketball Team finished the 2010-2011 season with an outstanding record of 24-8, ranked as the No. 4 team in the state and demonstrated athletic fortitude and prowess to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars' 66-63 victory over Horn Lake led the team into history as the victors of the school's first state title, rising triumphantly as the 2010-2011 Class 6A State Champions; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars who outscored their opponents to reach the big dance, have received several individual honors, which are a testament of the team's athletic super-status, including:  the selection of Taylor Beverly and Arkeyla Branch to the All-State Tournament Team; the naming of Arkeyla Branch as  the Cellular South Scholar Athlete; and the selection of Taylor Beverly as MVP; and

     WHEREAS, members of the Lady Cougars Basketball Team include:  seniors, Taylor Beverly, Santoya Bilbro, Arkeyla Branch, Vandria Dampier, Andrea Hollis, Epiphany Sutton and Fairley Wash; juniors, Otiria Chaffee, Jasmine Grant and Malinda Kyles; sophomores, Kelsey Hubbard and Arin Ladner; freshman, Parris Ladner; and managers, Jennifer Gross, Ashley Baker and Taniya Gaines; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Angie Reynolds and Assistant Coach Jason Greer, who have broadened the Lady Cougars' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Reynolds, in her first year as the Lady Cougars' coach, continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship acquired during her six years with the Pisgah High School Lady Dragons, where she compiled a 145-56 record, two district championships, a 1A South State Championship and three state tournament appearances, as evidenced in her ability to produce high caliber players and plays, and by the team's successful season and winning its first state championship title under Reynolds' leadership and counsel; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Rankin High School Lady Cougars Basketball Team and their coaches, Angie Reynolds and Jason Greer, for their outstanding 2010-2011 season, for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Northwest Rankin High School, Head Coach Angie Reynolds, Assistant Coach Jason Greer and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
