House Concurrent Resolution 94

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 30TH AS "VIETNAM VETERANS OF MISSISSIPPI RECOGNITION DAY" TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MISSISSIPPI'S VETERANS OF THE VIETNAM WAR.

     WHEREAS, April 30, 1975, marked the Fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War when the capitol of South Vietnam was captured by the People's Army of Vietnam and the National Liberation Front, making April 30th an appropriate date to recognize and commend Mississippi's veterans of the Vietnam War; and

     WHEREAS, now serving the State of Mississippi in their capacity as legislators, State Representatives Sidney Bondurant, Billy Broomfield, Mac Huddleston and John Mayo served their country bravely and courageously in Vietnam during the war; and

     WHEREAS, also proudly serving the United States of America in Vietnam during the war were State Senators Tom King and Willie Simmons; and

     WHEREAS, courageously serving their state and nation still today, Brigadier General Brown and Major General Gaston are the only two remaining active members of the Mississippi National Guard who served in Vietnam during the war; and

     WHEREAS, House of Representatives Public Information Officer Mac Gordon is also a Vietnam War veteran worthy of recognition and commendation; and

     WHEREAS, numerous other Mississippians fought in the Vietnam War to protect the freedoms all citizens of this state and country enjoy; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend all of Mississippi's veterans of the Vietnam War, who bravely and courageously served their country and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize April 30, 2011, as "Vietnam Veterans of Mississippi Recognition Day" to recognize and commend Mississippi's veterans of the Vietnam War.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Brigadier General Brown; Major General Gaston; Representatives Bondurant, Broomfield, Huddleston (15th), and Mayo; Senators King and Simmons; Mac Gordon; and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
