House Concurrent Resolution 80

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SUZANA BROWN FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown, a resident of Gautier, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown, a language arts instructor and chairperson and a learning lab chairperson, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past eight years and has taught for the past ten years; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown received her bachelor of arts and master of arts in English degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown served as the Written Communication Leader of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College SACS Assessment Team; SACS Quality Action Committee and Implementation Committee; former Phi Theta Kappa Advisor; and the Emergency Action Committee; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown is a member of the English Association in Mississippi, the English Association-Southeast, the Association for the Tutoring Profession, the Modern Language Association, and is a Sylvan Learning Center franchise owner; and

WHEREAS, Suzana Brown is a member of the First Baptist Church of Vancleave, Mississippi, member of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, member of the Jackson County School District Parent Teacher Organization, the Director of Education for America's Promise, member of Mission Mississippi, volunteer for the SOAR rally for the Pascagoula School District, charter member of the Gautier High School football team, sponsor of the Gautier Rotary Golf Tournament, supporter of Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County, and participant in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Biloxi; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding teachers, such as Suzana Brown, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Suzana Brown for being selected as the Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend heartiest wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Suzana Brown and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
