AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI, TO ALLOW THE COLUMBUS LIGHT AND WATER DEPARTMENT TO TAKE MEASURES TO ASSIST CONSUMERS IN REDUCING THEIR ELECTRICITY BILLS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The governing authorities of the City of Columbus, Mississippi, are authorized, in their discretion, to allow the Columbus Light and Water Department of the City of Columbus, in conjunction with the Tennessee Valley Authority, to take measures to assist residential and commercial consumers in reducing their electricity bills.  The measures authorized in this section may include, but are not limited to, the following:

          (a)  Energy efficient equipment devices;

          (b)  Weatherizing; and

          (c)  Billing.

     (2)  The provisions of this section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2014.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
