A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION URGING CONGRESS AND THE MISSISSIPPI EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT TO ADOPT A CLEAN AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY STANDARD (CSES) FOR MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, reliable, affordable and abundant energy is necessary for the quality of life of our citizens and for job creation and economic development; and
WHEREAS, a sound energy policy embraces both abundant energy generation, a clean environment, and a growing economy; and
WHEREAS, the United States Congress is considering various policies to promote clean energy goals or mandates through Renewable Electricity Standards (RES) and Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS); and
WHEREAS, nuclear energy is affordable, reliable, abundant, emits no pollution, and is sustainable for centuries, and Mississippi should seek abundant and affordable energy that fuels our economic development; and
WHEREAS, by adopting a Clean and Sustainable Energy Standard, Mississippi will meet energy objectives which can be embraced by a wide coalition of individual, environmental, consumer and business interests:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby urge the United States Congress and Departments of the Executive Branch of Mississippi government to adopt a Clean and Sustainable Energy Standard (CSES) to meet the goals of reliable, affordable, abundant and clean energy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State of the State of Mississippi is directed to prepare copies of this resolution and transmit them to the President of the United States, the President and Secretary of the United States Senate, the Speaker and the Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, the Governor of the State of Mississippi, and to Mississippi's congressional delegation, and that copies be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
