Senate Concurrent Resolution 667

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE INGOMAR HIGH SCHOOL "FALCONS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND LEGENDARY COACH NORRIS ASHLEY FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2009-2010 SEASON.

     WHEREAS, Zack Carnell scored 26 points and Matt Purvis added 20 as a group of Ingomar seniors beat McAdams High School 72-60 to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A Boys State Championship on March 4, 2010; and

     WHEREAS, Ingomar Coach Norris Ashley won a ninth State Championship - five boys championships and four girls championships - in his 39th year at the North Mississippi school.  Coach Ashley will not forget this group of seniors, who have been playing together for nearly a decade; and

     WHEREAS, Carnell finished with 26 points to lead Ingomar, while Purvis added 20 and Kidd 16 points.  Purvis and Carnell were also named to the All-Tournament Team, along with Myrtle's Jimel Judon, and Purvis was named the player of the game, as well as the scholar athlete.  The community has wanted another title since the boys last won in 2002, and the fans stayed well after the win to take in the moment, as the team passed around the trophy and celebrated with fans; and

     WHEREAS, the 2009-2010 Ingomar High School Boys roster is as follows:  Zack Carnell, Matt Purvis, Tyler McCay, Clay Kidd, Tyler Jarvis, Kensey Stout, Seth Taylor, Jon Logan Little, Justin Armstrong, Tanner McCollum, Steven Foster and Irbin Garcia; Head Coach, Norris Ashley; Assistant Coach, Richard Byrd; and Managers Dalton Wood, Lauren Langston and Kayla Lyons; and

     WHEREAS, winning the State Championship was Ingomar's goal, and Coach Ashley considers the Grand Slam a reward for his team.  Ingomar (30-6) played 2A Champion West Bolivar (25-8) in the opening round; and

     WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize this achievement by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their parents, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ingomar High School "Falcons" Boys Basketball Team and legendary Coach Norris Ashley for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A State Championship and for their outstanding 2009-2010 season and extend our best wishes for future academic and athletic successes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Ashley and Principal Kenny Roberts for the team, forwarded to the New Albany School Board and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
