A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JUDY JENKINS, A TEACHER AT MADISON-CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IN MADISON, MISSISSIPPI, FOR RECEIVING THE 2010 SIEMENS AWARD FOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT IN MATH, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, Judy Jenkins is one of only 50 teachers nationally to receive a Siemens Foundation Award for Advanced Placement, a national honor recognizing outstanding high school teachers and students; and

     WHEREAS, the Siemens Foundation provides more than $7 Million annually in support of educational initiatives in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.  Its signature programs, the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology and Siemens Award for Advanced Placement, reward exceptional achievement in science, math and technology.  The newest program, The Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge, encourages K-12 students to develop innovative green solutions for environmental issues.  By supporting outstanding students today, and recognizing the teachers and schools that inspire their excellence, the Foundation helps nurture tomorrow's scientists and engineers.  The Foundation's mission is based on the culture of innovation, research and educational support that is the hallmark of Siemens' United States companies and its parent company, Siemens AG; and

     WHEREAS, established in 1998, the Siemens Foundation, has been a national leader in honoring excellence among students, teachers and high schools in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) through a series of innovative programs that span education from grade school through graduate school; and

     WHEREAS, Siemens is one of the largest technology employers in the country, with four locations and over 400 employees in Mississippi and has one of the nation's premier science research programs for high school students; and

     WHEREAS, Judy Jenkins has brought positive recognition to her school, her community and her state by receiving this award, and we applaud the business community for recognizing the educational challenge of student proficiency in math and science by honoring this teacher; and

     WHEREAS, it is a testament to the hard work of this outstanding Mississippi teacher that she has been chosen for this honor which positively reflects upon her school, her community and upon the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Judy Jenkins, a teacher at Madison-Central High School, for receiving the top individual teacher award in the prestigious Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Judy Jenkins, forwarded to Principal Edith Mitchell at Madison-Central High School, the Madison Municipal Separate School Board and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
