Senate Concurrent Resolution 634

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING RESPECTED MERIDIAN BUSINESSMAN, MAYOR AND WORLD WAR II VETERAN I. ALFRED "AL" ROSENBAUM, JR., ON THE OCCASION OF HIS 90TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, there is no more respected citizen in the City of Meridian, Mississippi, than I. Alfred "Al" Rosenbaum, Jr., whose name is synonymous with the economic development of that city; and

     WHEREAS, on Friday, March 19, 2010, business leaders and public officials from Central Mississippi will be honoring Al Rosenbaum on the occasion of his 90th birthday celebration at Weidmann's Restaurant in downtown Meridian; and

     WHEREAS, Al Rosenbaum's military service is typical of America's "Greatest Generation":  joined the Navy as an Aviation Cadet December 1941; served in the United States Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator from 1942 to 1946 and in the Active Reserve until retirement in 1961; received 5 Battle Stars and Presidential Citation; Winged 2nd Lt. USMCR, May 8, 1943; flew PBY F4U Corsair and Transports DC2-DC3; C46 and DC4s Action Caribbean and Pacific; received 5 Battle Stars and Presidential Citation and an Air Medal; retired after 24 years in the Reserve as a Major, United States Marine Corps Reserve; and

     WHEREAS, Al Rosenbaum served with distinction as the Mayor of the City of Meridian from 1977-1985; and

     WHEREAS, Rosenbaum is one of the founders of WTOK-TV and Meyer and Rosenbaum, Inc.  He is Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer of the Riley Foundation.  Through the years, Alfred Rosenbaum has received many awards for his service to the community.  The Humanitarian Award is presented each year to a person, organization or business to recognize time, talent and effort contributed to the betterment of the community, particularly to young people; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Rosenbaum's civic, business and charitable contributions are a matter of record:  past President, Congregation Beth Israel in Meridian and of the Aseph Lodge, B'Nai Brith; past President, Mississippi Association of Insurance Agents; past National Chairman, Education Committee National Association of Insurance Agents; former Chairman, Finance Drive for the Girl Scouts; former Chairman, Committee for the organization of the United Way; past President, Meridian Area Council of the Navy League and Mississippi State Navy League; former Director, Riley Memorial Hospital, Meridian, Mississippi; past Chairman, Meridian Industrial Foundation; former member, Executive Committee, Mississippi A&I Board; past President, East Mississippi Council; Winner, 1956 J.H. Johnson Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Insurance Profession; Winner, Sertoma Service to Humanity Award; Winner, Lauderdale County Bar Association Liberty Bell Award; Former Director, United First Bank; former Vice President/Treasurer/CFO, Riley Development Systems; Advisory Council, Lauren Rodgers Museum, Laurel, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Al Rosenbaum, born in Meridian, Mississippi, in 1920, attended Meridian public schools and earned a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University.  Rosenbaum and his wife, Lucile, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.  The couple has three children; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the citizens of Meridian at this landmark event and extend the thanks of a grateful state to this leading citizen of Central Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute respected Meridian businessman, former Mayor and decorated World War II Veteran I. Alfred "Al" Rosenbaum, Jr., on the occasion of his 90th birthday celebration, and extend our best wishes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Al Rosenbaum and his family, forwarded to the Mayor and City Council of Meridian and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
