A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PASS CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL DISTANCE RUNNER CORY MCGEE FOR WINNING 19 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND FOR WINNING THE GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL MILE RACE AT THE PRESTIGIOUS 2010 MILLROSE GAMES AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN IN NEW YORK CITY.
WHEREAS, Pass Christian High School distance runner Cory McGee won another national race on January 29, 2010. Competing in the prestigious 103rd Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York City, McGee won the New York Road Runner Girls' High School Mile race. McGee finished with a time of 4:52.77. She finished 3 seconds ahead of second place finisher Aisling Cuffe. McGee finished 2nd in the mile at the last three Millrose Games; and
WHEREAS, Pass Christian High School Senior distance runner Cory McGee has been the top performer in each track and field meet in which she participated in the 2009-2010 season, bringing national level competition to this sport and excitement to each event; and
WHEREAS, Cory has been the Mississippi State High School Champion a total of 19 times to date, 14 times in track and 5 times in cross country. She currently holds the overall Mississippi state record in cross country as well as the 4A and 3A high school records. In addition, she holds the overall Mississippi State High School record for the 3200m and 1600m as well as the 3A and 4A records for the 800m, 1600m and 3200m in track; and
WHEREAS, Cory is a two-time National High School Champion in the indoor mile run. In 2006, as an 8th grader, she won her first National High School Championship in the indoor mile by running a new world record time of 4:49.32 for her age (13); and
WHEREAS, Cory was born on May 29, 1992. She is 17 years old and a Senior at Pass Christian High School in Pass Christian, Mississippi. She is a member of the Pineville Presbyterian Church, and is a member of the following organizations and clubs:
· Pass Christian High School Academic Honor Roll;
· Volunteer for Special Needs Class;
· Mu Alpa Theta Math Club;
· Fellowship of Christian Students;
· Young Republican Club;
· Member of Pass Christian Yacht Club/Lifeguard; and
while at Pass Christian High School, Cory has participated in the following varsity athletics:
· Track and field;
· Cross Country;
· Soccer; and
WHEREAS, Cory's career highlights for the 2009-2010 season:
· Track - LSU Indoor Classic Champion 800m and 1600m (#2 and #1, in the United States, respectively);
· Track - 2010 Carl Lewis Invitational Indoor Mile Champion and meet record holder;
· 2009 Sun Herald Girls High School Athlete of the Year;
· 2009 Cross Country - Mississippi High School State Champion - 4A Overall;
· Millrose Mile Indoor Champion with a time of 4:52;
2008-2009 season:
· Track - Nike Indoor Nationals 3rd Place Girls Mile/All American;
· Track - Nike Outdoor Nationals 3rd Place Girls Mile/All American;
· USATF Youth Nationals 2nd Place Girls Outdoor Mile
· IAAF World Youth Championships 9th Place Girls outdoor Mile (Team USA);
· Track - District/Regional/South State/State High School Champion 800m, 1600m, 3200m - 3A/Overall;
· Track - 3A High School State Champions (Team);
· Track - 102nd Millrose Games 2nd Place High School Mile;
· Track - Mobile Meet of Champions 1st Place mile/record holder;
· Cross Country - Mississippi State Athlete of the Week - Clarion-Ledger;
· Cross Country - Mississippi High School State Champion - 3A/Overall;
· Cross Country - Pass Christian High School Letter;
· Track - Pass Christian High School Letter;
· Cross Country - Pass Christian High School Most Dedicated;
· Track - Pass Christian High School MVP; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the special achievements of this student athlete who has brought honor to her school, her community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Pass Christian High School distance runner Cory McGee for record-setting performances at the Mississippi State Track and Field Championship for winning 19 State Championships and for winning the Girls High School Mile Race at the prestigious 2010 Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and extend to her our best wishes for success in her future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Cory McGee, Pass Christian High School Track and Field Coaches Chris Amos and Tim Ladner and Principal Cathy Broadway, forwarded to the Pass Christian School Board and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
