Senate Concurrent Resolution 577

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE ST. STANISLAUS "ROCK-A-CHAWS" FOOTBALL TEAM FROM BAY ST. LOUIS, MISSISSIPPI, AND RECORD-SETTING QUARTERBACK DYLAN FAVRE FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the St. Stanislaus "Rock-A-Chaws" Football Team, led by Coach Forrest Williams and record-setting Quarterback Dylan Favre and Receiver Krisjon Wilkerson, beat Lafayette County 35-16 on Saturday, December 5, 2009, to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship at Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi, before an estimated crowd of 5,000; and

WHEREAS, it was the first title for a team from the Mississippi Gulf Coast since D'Iberville's Class 4A Title in 2002, a fact that Coach Williams was aware of as he clutched the championship trophy in a soaked shirt.  "I think we showed tonight that the South plays a great brand of football," Coach Williams said; and

WHEREAS, Dylan Favre (nephew of three-time NFL MVP Brett Favre), who owns basically every passing record in state history, threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more to lead St. Stanislaus (14-1, ranked No. 5 in 4A) to its first State Title.  He completed 19 of 37 passes for 369 yards, while rushing for another 51 yards.  Favre's first three scores (a run and a pair of passes to Boomer Scarborough and Krisjon Wilkerson) helped St. Stanislaus race to a 21-0 half-time lead.  That was plenty for a stingy defense that stopped their opponents three times in the red zone during the game; and

WHEREAS, while quarterback Dylan Favre has shattered basically every passing record in state history, sure-handed Krisjon Wilkerson, a Top 125 Senior, caught six passes for 152 yards and two TDs.  Wilkerson entered the game as the state's record holder in career TD receptions, touchdowns and receiving yards.  He also holds single-season records for yards and TDs.  Against Lafayette County, he hauled in a 70-yard TD pass early in the fourth quarter to set a single-season touchdown record.  It was his 25th of the season; and

WHEREAS, the St. Stanislaus offense gets most of the credit, but the defense played big time at the Championship Game.  On three separate occasions, Lafayette County drove within the three-yard line and came up empty.  "You can't say enough about them," said Rock-A-Chaws defensive coordinator Mark Logan, in his eighth season; and

WHEREAS, here are the statistics for quarterback Dylan Favre:  5,589 yards passing and 63 touchdowns, 1,234 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns.  In other words, he personally accounted for 81 touchdowns, which is 37 - thirty-seven! - more than the previous state record of 54 set in 2002; and

WHEREAS, the 2009 Rock-A-Chaw Roster is:  Brennan Morreale, WR/OLB; Joe Klein, WR/DB; Josh Williams, WR/OLB; Jeremy Forte, OL/DE; Kollin Cannon, RB/OLB; Dylan Favre, QB/OLB; Devry Cothren, WR/LB; Sean Storey, QB/LB; Nick Rogers, RB/OLB; Zander Romano, WR/DB; Bo Brennan, QB/DB; Cameron Balder, WR/LB; Brice Thomas, RB/ILB; Jake Hearin, WR/DB; Dario Alford, WR/DB; Jake Lichtenstein, WR/DB; Drew Goscinski, WR/DB; Krisjon Wilkerson, WR/DB; Blake Morreale, RB/ILB; Cody Logan, WR/DB; Zach Everhart, WR/OLB; Issac May, WR/ILB; Joseph Guillot, RB/LB; Tyler Hennessey, WR/LB; Boomer Scarborough, WR/ILB; Cody Acosta, WR/DB; Chris Lapniewski, RB/ILB; Bennett Rimmer, RB/ILB; Sheldon Cantelli, RB/OLB; Bryce Rogers, WR/OLB; Kevin Lichtenstein, WR/DB; Michael Carter, OL/DT; Anthony Depreo, OL/DT; Jake Fusia, OL/ILB; Jack Gibbons, OL/DT; Jordan Hathorn, OL/DT; Cody Gollott, OL/DT; Michael Owens, OL/LB; Chris Frigo, OL/DE; Tyler Cowand, OL/DE; Jarrod Bigott, OL/DT; Alex Maxwell, OL/DT; Chandlor York, OL/DT; Perre Carter, OL/ILB; Craig Frigo, OL/DT; Patrick Stovall, OL/DT; Taylor Thompson, OL/DE; Garrett Necaise, OL/DL; Grant Thompson, K/OLB; Jake Lindgren, WR/DB; Nick Everhart, WR/OLB; Alden St. Mary, WR/DB; Tim Flynn, OL/DE; Evan Ladner, K; and Assistant Coach Hunter Dawkins; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this singular achievement by a group of student athletes and their coaches, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the Mississippi Gulf Coast:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That that we do hereby commend and congratulate St. Stanislaus Football Team from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, Coach Forrest Williams and record-setting Quarterback Dylan Favre for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued success in their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Principal Paul Verlander, Headmaster Brother Ronald Hingle, Coach Forrest Williams, Assistant Coach Hunter Dawkins, Quarterback Dylan Favre and Wide Receiver Krisjon Wilkerson for the team and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
