A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE TRINITY EPISCOPAL DAY SCHOOL "SAINTS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH DAVID KING FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Trinity Episcopal Day School "Saints" Football Team from Natchez, Mississippi, played solid football on offense and defense to dominate Desoto School (Arkansas) by a score of 37-7 on November 27, 2009, to win the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class A State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the season record for Trinity is 12 Wins with 3 Losses (all to Class AA schools), outscoring opponents 506-218 and winning the MAIS Class A State Championship. Trinity has won State Championships in 1989, 2001, 2006 and 2009. The last three occurred under the leadership of Head Coach David King; and
WHEREAS, Trinity clinched the District 6A Title by beating Huntington 19-0, won its first play-off game against Riverdale 48-13, defeated Silva Bay 43-28 to advance to the Southern State game and won the South State Class A Championship 38-11 over Riverfield; and
WHEREAS, the State Championship wasn't just about how the Saints played, it was about all the hard work the players put in beginning in the summer and continuing all the way through the season. "All the blood, sweat and tears, trials and tribulations we all came through were for this," senior running back R.J. Fleming said. "It was definitely worth it. It's a great feeling. We're champions"; and
WHEREAS, Trinity Head Coach David King said the coaches and players knew the team would have an opportunity to compete for a State Championship. "It's always special to have a group with a total focus in mind. You want to win a championship every year. Obviously it doesn't happen that way, but when you get there and play a high caliber of football like we do and get to this point, it's a total relief that we pulled it off. I'm just happy for those seniors," said Coach King; and
WHEREAS, Trinity Episcopal Head Coach David King's son Kent is a junior running back and defensive back for the Saints. After Trinity defeated Desoto School (Arkansas) 37-7 Friday afternoon to win the MAIS Class A State Championship, the Kings shared an embrace and a moment that not a lot of fathers and sons get to share; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this achievement by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Trinity Episcopal Day School "Saints" Football Team and Coach David King for winning the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class A State Championship, and extend to the team and their parents and sponsors our best wishes for success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Trinity Saints Football Team, Coach King and Headmaster Dr. Delecia S. Carey, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
