A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND SALUTING MISSISSIPPI PUBLIC BROADCASTING (MPB) PRODUCTION OF THE PRESCHOOL CHILDREN'S SERIES "BETWEEN THE LIONS" FOR RECEIVING TWO 2009 EMMY AWARDS.

     WHEREAS, on August 30, 2009, the Mississippi Public Broadcasting production "Between the Lions" won two Creative Arts Emmy Awards, one for Outstanding Preschool Children's Series and one for Outstanding Writing in a Children's Series; and

     WHEREAS, the PBS Kids program "Between the Lions," which engages and encourages a child to read, has been produced at the studios of Mississippi Public Broadcasting since 2005; and

     WHEREAS, MPB co-produces the program with WGBH Boston and Sirius Thinking, Ltd., of New York; and

     WHEREAS, Mississippians Scott Colwell, Diane Hartman and Rick Klein were recognized as part of the production team for "Between the Lions" in the Outstanding Preschool Children's Series Award.  Jackson native Keri Grayson Horn was recognized as part of the writing team for the Outstanding Writing in a Children's Series Award; and

     WHEREAS, Keri Horn accepted the award on behalf of the "Between the Lions" team; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Authority for Educational Television (MPB) develops and distributes content through its eight-station statewide network of public television and radio stations, interactive video, web, and outreach activities that provides educational, cultural, and informational programming and services to preschoolers, K-12 students and teachers, adult learners, and to the citizens of Mississippi.  The agency is responsible for the administration, operation, control and supervision of educational television and radio in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we join the public television community in commending a group of Mississippians whose creative skills have brought honor to their studio, their agency, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and salute the creators and producers of Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) production of the preschool children's series "Between the Lions" for receiving two Emmy Awards, one for Outstanding Preschool Children's Series and one for Outstanding Writing in a Children's Series, and extend our best wishes to the Mississippi Public Broadcasting team for this high honor.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Executive Director of Mississippi Public Broadcasting and to the "Between the Lions" production team, forwarded to the Executive Director of the Mississippi Arts Commission, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
