Senate Concurrent Resolution 520

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND CIVIC LEADERSHIP OF DANIEL ARTHUR "DAN" WIGGS OF RIPLEY, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, respected community and civic leader Daniel Arthur "Dan" Wiggs, 97, of Ripley, Mississippi, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009; and

     WHEREAS, Dan Wiggs was the owner and operator of NAPA Ripley Parts Company since 1946.  He truly loved Tippah County and was very knowledgeable of Tippah County history; and

     WHEREAS, Dan was a charter member of the Ripley Lions Club, where he was a member for more than 60 years; and

     WHEREAS, he was the founder of then Anti-Litter Campaign in Tippah County and was credited as beginning the Keep America Beautiful Adopt-A-Highway Program; and

     WHEREAS, Dan was the first recipient of the Heart of Tippah County Award; and

     WHEREAS, Dan was a faithful member of Ripley First United Methodist Church.  Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Beatrice "Bea" Prather Wiggs; one daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Wiggs Kuykendall (Bill); three grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Kuykendall, Anna Katherine Kuykendall Cagle (Rob), and Blake Wiggs Kuykendall; several nieces and nephews; and many friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of a respected citizen of this North Mississippi community whose civic contributions are well known to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and civic leadership of Daniel Arthur "Dan" Wiggs of Ripley, Mississippi, and extend our sympathy to his surviving family on his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Dan Wiggs, forwarded to the Mayor of Ripley and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
