AN ACT TO EXEMPT MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE FROM MANDATORY CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS; TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  An attorney licensed to practice law in the State of Mississippi who serves as a member of the Mississippi Legislature shall be exempt from the continuing legal education requirements imposed by Rule 3 of the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education Rules of the Mississippi Supreme Court.  An attorney whose legislative service does not encompass the entire period of the continuing legal education reporting year shall be required to obtain one (1) hour of continuing legal education for each month of the reporting year that the attorney was not a member of the Legislature.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after August 1, 2010.
