House Resolution 93

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF DR. WOOD COLEMAN HIATT, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Wood Coleman Hiatt, a long-standing resident of the Magnolia State was called to his eternal home on March 25, 2010, at the age of 79, to enter into everlasting rest with his Heavenly Father, causing great sorrow and loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, known for giving back both time and resources to the community he so loved, Dr. Hiatt was active in the Community Foundation of Greater Jackson and CARES Center of the Mississippi Children's Home Society; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hiatt married Jane Crater Hiatt, and their marriage was blessed with two sons, Daniel Gordon Hiatt and Jonathan David Everhart; and one daughter, Laura Shearer; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hiatt received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama, and after graduating from the Capstone, Dr. Hiatt obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hiatt did his rotating internship at McLaren General Hospital in Flint, Michigan, residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland; and

     WHEREAS, after becoming a Doctor he gave many years of honorable service in the MS Air National Guard and in the United States Air Force Reserve as a flight surgeon and as Chief of Aerospace Medicine; and

     WHEREAS, a dedicated medical professional, Dr. Hiatt worked in general and forensic psychiatry at the Mississippi Neuropsychiatric Clinic; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hiatt was preceded in death by his mother, Maudine Hiatt Ingram, and his stepfather, Walter Ingram; and

     WHEREAS, though Dr. Hiatt has traversed the river of life to now stand on golden heavenly shores, the legacy of his memory will continue on in the lives of the survivors he leaves to cherish and honor his memory, including:  his wife, Jane Crater Hiatt; two sons, Daniel Gordon Hiatt and Jonathan David Everhart; daughter, Laura Shearer; four grandchildren, Shelly Hiatt, John Daniel Shearer, Reilly Gordon and Caroline Everhart; half-sister, Sylvia Shannon; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the life and legacy of such a truly remarkable and giving individual as Dr. Hiatt:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of Dr. Wood Coleman Hiatt and extend deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Dr. Hiatt and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
