A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BASKETBALL COACH GINA SKELTON ON HER 700TH CAREER WIN AS THE HEAD COACH AT WAYNE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL.

WHEREAS, Wayne County High School Girls Basketball Head Coach Gina Skelton has built a dynasty in Mississippi sports with her relentless work as the head of the Lady War Eagles Basketball Team; and

WHEREAS, to be a successful coach with 700 career victories entails not only an athletic aptitude, but a gift that Coach Skelton has used to provide countless girls of our state with a solid foundation, both on the basketball court and also in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Coach Skelton's wisdom has equipped her athletes for the inequitable challenges that they will face in life; and

WHEREAS, adhering to Coach Skelton's meticulous preparation, the Lady War Eagles Basketball Teams have produced many winning seasons, including the 2010 5A Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, in order to win 700 games, Coach Skelton had to invest additional hard work that began in the early hours and continued into long nights and weekends; and

WHEREAS, many of Coach Skelton's athletes remember the lessons learned from her, such as pushing one's body to its limit in order to gain victory; and

WHEREAS, Coach Skelton's influence has supported the abilities of many athletes to balance school work as well as any personal challenges; and

WHEREAS, turning young ladies into successful and productive women, the Wayne County High School program's future is bright with Coach Skelton at the helm and further bolstered with the guidance and support of the Wayne County community; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend a person such as Coach Skelton, who has brought honor to the sport of basketball, her school and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Basketball Coach Gina Skelton on her 700th career victory, and extend best wishes to her for continued success in all of her future athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Wayne County High School, Coach Gina Skelton and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
