A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING AND COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MR. ARTHUR LEE THOMAS AND CONGRATULATING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS 70TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, on March 20, 2010, Mr. Arthur Lee Thomas of Indianola, Mississippi, born on March 20, 1940, to the late Edwin and Lizzie Giles Thomas, long-standing residents of Sunflower County, Mississippi, will celebrate the auspicious occasion of his 70th anniversary of life in recognition of his date of birth; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Thomas was educated in the Indianola School System and upon completing his educational course, he sought and was gainfully employed with the Ludlow Textile Company, before joining the Indianola Police Department and subsequently retiring from the Lewis Grocery Super-Valu Company; and

     WHEREAS, not being one to make idle use of his time, Mr. Thomas is currently employed as a school crossing guard with the Indianola School District, where he is tasked with maintaining the safety of pedestrian students and controlling the flow of traffic in school zones; and

     WHEREAS, having met the likes of one doting darling, our dear friend and colleague, the Honorable Sara Richardson Thomas, at life's intersection of love and affection, the two united in an inseparable matrimonial bond after a loving courtship, sharing a marriage full of love, respect and honor, and blessed with two sons, Kenneth and Edwin; and

     WHEREAS, known for his steadfast service to the church, Mr. Thomas is an active member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he serves as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and as Sunday School Superintendent, and has evidenced a Christ-like love for those whom he encounters in life through his selfless devotion to his family and fellowman; and

     WHEREAS, in the celebration of this blessed milestone, Mr. Thomas will share this welcomed anniversary of life with those closest in affection, sentiment and related to him, including his wife, the Honorable Sara Richardson Thomas; sons, Kenneth and Edwin; daughters-in-law, Delinda and Misti; grandchildren, Marcus and Tai; and siblings, Earl, Otha Lee, David and Earnest Ruth; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor and commend the life of such a noble individual as Mr. Thomas, whose life is a testament of his faith in God:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby acknowledge and commend the life of Mr. Arthur Lee Thomas, congratulate him upon the occasion of celebrating his 70th anniversary of life in recognition of his birthday and extend warmest wishes for many more years of good health, love and peace.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Thomas and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
